From Pastor Andrew’s Desk

Greetings FCCB!

Pastor Andrew has invited

me (Mike Haddad) to preach this week and sadly this will be my last time preaching at FCCB before I head off to Vermont in December. So please join us this Sunday for my last sermon! We will take a break from Pastor Andrew’s series on 2 Corinthians, but in no way does this message stray from the theme of Identity which is what Pastor Andrew has been preaching on.

We’ll be taking a look at just one verse, Matthew 13:44,

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

The fellow in this parable realizes that he’s come across something of exceptional value and he does the unthinkable: The fellow gives up everything in order to purchase the field where he found the treasure. It’s unthinkable to sell all your stuff and even your house to buy a field. Likewise, this parable is in no doubt related to what it is like when we realize the great treasure we have in Jesus, we are called to lay it all on the line for Jesus, and yet there is that tension because certain questions arise like:
  1.      “What exactly does it cost to follow Jesus?”
  2.       “Do I have to give up everything like this man in the story did?”
  3.      And of course, “is it worth it?”
These questions will be addressed on Sunday, especially the 3rd one, is it worth it? I encourage you, wherever you are in your walk with the Lord, to consider these questions. If you are brand new to church and to Jesus and haven’t made the step of faith to follow Jesus you may be considering if this is all worth it.

If you’ve been a believer for some time now you may need to consider, “have I really given my entire life to Jesus? Or just some of my life?” We all have questions to consider this week.

My sermon is titled “Jesus Wants the Rose” and you probably have no idea why this sermon would have such a title. I did this on purpose! My sermon has such a mysterious name so that you will be inclined to come and hear the conclusion of my message. After all, I am a clever guy so I just can’t help but add a little bit of a “wow factor” into my last sermon at FCCB.

While it is sad that this is my last sermon it is always a joy to share God’s word with you all. Don’t forget, we will be here until mid-December and so there are plenty of good times to be had between now and then. I pray that this Sunday would be one of those good times we can share.

In Christ,

Mike Haddad
