Hello FCCB family…

This is my first of many e-blurbs in preparation for my first turn preaching this Sunday. I am greatly looking forward to joining you all again, and seeing what the Lord has for us!

As I prepared for this Sunday, and my official start date with FCCB, the Lord prompted me to spend time considering the many “firsts” that we go through in our lives…

our first day of school,
our first car or job,
our first apartment or home,
our first child or grandchild.

All of these things (and others) mark important beginnings in our lives, as was the beginning of each of our relationships with Christ.

This Sunday I will be preaching from Matthew 9:9-13 which is the calling of Matthew. This story appears in Matthew’s own gospel, as well as Mark and Luke’s gospel.

There are a great deal of important lessons from this story, some of which I hope to touch on this Sunday, but one that’s important to note before hand is that Matthew’s journey to Christ didn’t begin in verse 9 when Christ first approaches him. Matthew’s journey to Christ began long before that. We don’t know much about the beginning of Matthew’s life, but we do know that God was shaping him for his future ministry as a disciple and Gospel author. We know that in the beginning, the people around Matthew rejected him, and we know now that his written work is one of the most read texts of all time.

There is an important transition in Matthew’s life, from beginning to end, from tax collector to apostle, and the transition deserves our attention. How Christ moves in Matthew’s life, and in our lives, can be illuminated as we explore this passage together.

See you Sunday!
