Faith and Covenant of First Church

First Church is a member of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC) and ascribes to that association's statement of faith.  In addition, First Church expresses its faith in Jesus Christ in formal public statements when one becomes a member of the Church and at various times during the year as part of the Sunday service.  The following are some of those statements:

  • Faith and Covenant of First Church

  • Apostles' Creed

  • Lord's Prayer

Recitation of Faith and Covenant of First Church:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, goodness and love; and in Jesus Christ, his Son, our Lord and Savior, who for us and our salvation lived and died and rose again and liveth ever-more; and in the Holy Spirit who taketh of the things of Christ and revealeth them to us, renewing, comforting, and inspiring the souls of men.

Acknowledging that we belong not to ourselves but to Jesus Christ, who for our sins died and rose again from the dead, we therefore bind ourselves with those of like faith that together we might by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit worship and serve Him and live to the praise of His glory, looking forward to His return.

Apostles' Creed:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;  And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Lord's Prayer:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen
