To Know Jesus and to seek His will for our lives, to Grow in our love and faithfulness to Jesus, and to Go share His Good News near and far
What We Believe
Statement of Beliefs.
The person and work of Jesus Christ is at the center of all we do. The Bible is our “road map” for faith and life.
In Honesty about our sinful condition. We are all works in progress, none has completely arrived. We invite you to join the journey with us.
In Spiritual growth happening in community. Intentional, caring relationships mark our lives at First Church.
In Sharing generously God’s gracious gifts. Loving God and loving our neighbor are inseparable commands. We are committed to being a powerful presence for good in our region and beyond.
“Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” – Ecclesiastes 4:12
Andrew James came to First Church in November of 2014 as our lead pastor. He is originally from Vienna, VA (a suburb of Washington, D.C.)
He graduated from the U. of Alabama (“Roll Tide”) and recently earned his M.Div at Gordon-Conwell, where he served as Student Body President. He served as a missionary in Pisa, Italy, worked on Capitol Hill as a congressional staffer, and spent the last eight years with Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC). He began with CBMC in the DC area and helped to launch their young professional initiative featuring events with many prominent business speakers and groups that focused on discipleship and evangelism. In 2011 he started the Boston chapter of CBMC, a ministry with a strong presence in the Boston business community. His life verses are Isaiah 30:18-21. He and his wife Becky have two young boys and a baby girl. He loves spending time with them, playing pick up basketball, walking along Halibut Pt. in Rockport, reading presidential biographies and pouring over baseball statistics (ask him about why Cal Ripken is his favorite baseball player of all time). He is so grateful to serve the Lord at First Church!
Originally from Connecticut, Tom did his undergraduate studies at Gordon College before to serve as youth pastor at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT.
